School Uniform Policy

Bottoms: khaki, black, or navy. No jeans or cargo pants.

Tops: White, navy blue, (long or short sleeves with a collar)

This policy was put into place because the Board of Education believes that school uniforms will assist in:

  • Promoting safe, focused learning environments
  • Building a positive school climate
  • Reducing ethnic and racial tensions
  • Bridging socio-economic differences between children
  • Promoting positive student behavior
  • Improving children’s self-respect and self-esteem
  • Decreasing school violence
  • Minimizing the loss of expensive student clothing
  • Helping students and parents resist peer pressure
  • Allowing school officials to easily recognize intruders on campuses
  • Improving morale and school pride
  • Producing cost savings for participating families

In addition, schools with successful uniform programs tend to enjoy higher academic results.

We ask that you make sure your child’s costume does not contain the following: fake weapons, too much blood or gore, and any obscenities.

We also ask that you make sure that your child is taking every safety precaution this Halloween. Please check that your child’s costume has the necessary safety reflectors and that he or she has a flash light handy. All children should be supervised when trick or treating and should refrain from participating in any dangerous pranks. Also, don’t forget to go through your child’s treats and throw out anything that looks suspicious. Thank you for helping us ensure that this Halloween is a safe and fun one for you and your family.

Have a safe Halloween!

PTA

Currently our membership is 87 we need 3 more to match last year’s membership. Have you joined yet?

Thank you for helping us raise $5500 for our Fall Fundraiser. Look for the order to come back the first week of November.

Kirstie Hoac, 2nd grade student in Room 7,  made the new LOGO for our Mira Vista t-shirts and sweat shirts.  She will receive both a t-shirt and sweat shirt in her winning design.  CONGRATULATIONS Kirstie!

Next PTA meeting is Wednesday, November 12th at 6:30 p.m.

Word of the Week

We, at MV, strive to increase our vocabulary on a weekly basis. In an effort to do this we have begun the Word of the Week. Every Monday a student reader gives the definition of the word, uses it in a sentence and encourages all students to use the word.  Teachers have distinct activities surrounding this activity.

The words that we’ve learned so far are: culture, alliance and mediator.
