November Newsletter
Dear Parents,
November is a shorter instructional month for us. (18 instructional days), but there’s a lot happening. Quarter 1 Report Cards for grades 6 to 8 students are going home on Thursday, November 10th ,and First Term Report Cards are going home on Tuesday, November 22nd. Please review your child’s progress and contact his or her teacher if you have concerns about a particular grade. The first week of this month (including Monday Nov. 7th) has been reserved for Parent Conferences for students in grades K to 5. These days are early dismissal days for K to 5 students (see Calendar). Please contact your child’s teacher to set a time to meet about progress and how we can better help your child succeed. Middle School teachers are available on an appointment basis. Please contact them after the first Quarter Report Cards go home on Nov. 10th, if you would like a meeting.
Thanks for your support for the Fall Festival last month. There was a good turn out and we had lots of fun. Check the calendar for the PTA events this month including the Craft Night and the Spelling Bee Fundraiser at the end of the month.
There will be no school on Thursday, November 11th in commemoration of Veteran’s Day. There will also be no school on Wednesday Nov. 23rd (district furlough day), and Thursday and Friday (11-24 and 11- 25) for the Thanksgiving Holidays. (Tuesday November 22nd is a Minimum Day).
Here are some interesting events happening in some grades:
· Art Classes (Artist in Residence) for K and 1 one day a month (PTA supported)
· UC Berkeley Science classes for 7th grade on Thursdays
· Recorder Classes for 3rd grade once a week.
· Cal State Hayward-Integrated Middle School Science partnership with Grades 6 to 8 teachers.
· The Artists in the schools promotion (Mrs. Lackey) which encourages and displays great art work from our students each month.
Finally, we wanted to congratulate Emily La and Benito Nazario, who achieved first place and second place, respectively, in the Richmond Writes contest. Their contributions were recognized at the Richmond City Council meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25th. Way to go Emily and Benito!
As usual, please call if you have concerns.
Sincerely,
J. Szot, Principal.
