I have been a teacher with the WCCUSD for the past 8 years. As
a teacher in an urban school district, I have always been extremely
motivated in my approach to teaching. Besides my motivation, I
am creative, energetic, have a sense of humor, and, I thrive on
change and flexibility. As a lifelong learner, I have actively
pursued continual professional growth. My interest and concern
about literacy as it pertains to students in high-risk urban school
settings, led me to complete my M.S. in Education in December
of 2006 after completing a Masters Thesis on "Adolescent
Students Who Struggle to Interact with Expository Text",
enter a Masters Degree Program at California State University,
East Bay in the fall of 2004. The effect of my on-going and consistent
professional development as a graduate student has helped me to
become an even more effective teacher in the classroom.
I am a full time participant in the California Mathematics and
Science Partnership Project at UC Berkeley as well as Ramp It
Up, a math instructional model designed by the Lawrence Hall of
Science. Also, I have coordinated and implemented the Student
Conflict Mediation program at the Mira Vista school site for the
past 3 years.
During the summer of 2007, I was the recipient of a paid (!) IISME
Fellowship at Intel Corporation. It brought home to
me the importance of not only setting high standards and expectations
for my students, as well as, providing me with "high-tech"
tools and strategies to allow my students to achieve success.
Parent Comments
"The 6th grade class is taught by the wonderful Ms. Posner.
Some of our 5th graders and their parents do not believe their child
is ready for middle school. Ms. Posner is a wonderful teacher who
engages her students and encourages them to think outside the box.''
